Basic Beliefs
Our teaching is based upon God’s Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, which are profitable for teaching, for life, for wisdom and insight and for human sexuality (2 Timothy 3:16-17). We believe that in the Bible God gives us the only true pattern for living in this world. We believe God’s intention is that sexual activity be expressed only within the boundaries of monogamous heterosexual marriage, between one man and one woman, to the exclusion of all others (Genesis 2:20-25). The Bible warns us against any deviation from this standard. We believe the Bible teaches that homosexual acts and lifestyle are not in accordance with God’s good plan for humanity.
We understand that there is a distinction between same-sex attractions/orientation and homosexual acts; we also recognise that Christ died for all sinners, not only heterosexuals. We seek to support individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions and encourage churches to be supportive to those in their midst who struggle withthose attractions. To that end we provide education, support and resources.
There are a number of factors which contribute to the development of same-sex attractions. The things which may be of assistance in healing, wholeness and restoration in this area include education, prayer, counselling, support and healthy friendships. However, we believe that the most significant part of a person’s healing will come through their relationship with Jesus Christ. To this end we suggest that this is the most important place to start in the journey of healing and restoration. Same-sex healing does occur in this day, as was the case in 1 Corinthians 6:9-12:
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (ESV)
